GOLF.
LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP. A BRILLIANT AUSTRALIAN. London, May Hi. Miss Molly Griffiths, aged 22, an Australian, and the daughter of a retired clergyman now living in Sunningdale, was in "brilliant form in the ladies' open golf championship at' Newcastle, County Down (Ireland). She beat her opponent in the second round by eight and six, doing twelve holes in 4G, and beat Miss Janet Jackson, Irish champion, in the semi-final by one. She contested the final of 36 holes with the champion, Miss Cecil Leitch, who won by 7 up and ft to play. Miss Griffiths was nervous, missing several tee shots, and she also had bad luck on the greens. The critics are enthusiastic, and consider that with increased experience she will probably become champion. Miss Griffiths was horn in Warrnambool, but lived practically all her life in England. She first played golf at the age of S«t St. Andrew; - , and was given her final coaching by Jack White, the Sunningdale professional. Ordinarily she is a very quick player, without a'traee of nervousness. She probably failed in the championship owing to fatigue. Her father, an Anglican- minister, was senior chaplain at Woolwich in wartime.—Aus. X.Z. Cable Assoc.
