GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE

The General Purposes Committee of the Xew Plymouth lJ.nroiifjh Council met last night. Present: His Worship the Mayor (IJr. J. Clarke), Crs. J. W. nayden, \V. A. follis, A. S. Brooker, R. L. Parkin, A. K. Sykes, V. Griffiths. Tho Palmerston North Borough Council forwarded copy of a resolution urging upon the Prime Minister to ta.ke steps to obtain adequate supplies of cement for local bodies to enable thtfm to carry on urgent public works. —Kcccivod. The Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote inking tile Council to appoint two representatives to attend a conference on .lime 0 to discuss the contributions paid by local bodies for hospital and charitable aid purposes.—Crs. Sykes and Hayden were appointed to represent the Council.

A letter was received from the Stratford. Borough Council asking the Council to support a resolution urging upon the Government (hat Saturday be made the universal half-holiday throughout the Dominion.—The Council decided to support the resolution.
