J<esvs has been received from the Caucasus stating that when the Bolshevik armies were descending upon Baku from the north, large, wellequipped Armenian forca; moved against the Tartar Republic, and captured Elizabethpol after fierce fighting. The Armenians are now astride the railway below Tiflis, and are moving along it. Another Armenian foree is advancing down the River, Aras, apparently with the intention of seizing the district of Ivaradagh, lying between Persia and the Tartar Republic. This move cut off the Bolsheviks from Persia, except by sea, and induced the Red leaders to approach the Armenians with offers of a treaty.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
