THE ZINC MARKET. By Telepaph—Press Assn.—Copyright Sydney, May 31. The non-ferrous metals mining committee, in addition to the proposals already cabled, also suggests that the Government prepare to purchase the blende (zinc sulphide) produced in the zinc mines, at a price equivalent to the cost of the Australian concentrates, plus £1 per ton, to cover the greater value to the British smelters. The suggestion put forwnrd resulted from a statement that the blonde market in the United Kingdom would be for some years affected by the purchase of Australian concentrates and buyers propose that tho Government ought, therefore to guarantee a corresponding price for home mines. It was asserted that the Government's agreement for tho purchase of Australian ores was depressing the market for 'he home article. The committee, however, thinks that tho present effect of this transaction has been exaggerated in tho minds of home mlneowners. LOAN & MERCANTILE REPORT. The NZ. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd.
