Mr. Eneas Gallagher, who has been a resident of Hawera for many years, left yesterday morning for the Waikato, where he has purchased a farm. A quiet wedding was solemnised at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Thrush, Jnaha, on May 11), when Mabel a. Willis, youngest daughter of Mr. R. Willis, of Kapuni, was married to Jamea C. Edmonds, of Whangamomona. Mr. J. E. Green, who has been superintendent of the Telegraph Department at Wanganui, has received advice of his promotion to the position of assistant-superintendent at Auckland. The death occurred on Sunday afternoon, after a short illness, of Mr. T. A. Taylor, Hurford Road. The deceased gentleman, who formerly lived in ■VVaverley, leaves a widow and grown-up family. Mr. and Mrs. Blackmail, and Mr. and Mrs. Penford, of Okaiawa, arc leaving for England in July, reports the Star's correspondent. Last week the former ivere entertained at a social evening by the parishioners of St- Aidan's. Mr. Blackman was presented with a travelling rug, and Mrs. Blackman with fi brooch, as a mark of the esteem in Which they were held.
