WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) May 29. During the winter months the mail for Tongaporutu, Mokau, and Awakino will close at 0.30 a.m. Mr. C. 11. Johnstone Is altering the time-table to suit passengers, so that they will be able to reach their destination before dark. A ear will leave daily at 7 a.m. The Soldiers' and Civilians' Club has received a donation of £lO from Mr. 13. C- Lawrence and £2 from Mr. Thos. McKcnzie towards the object they have in view. If this example was followed by the public generally the club would soon be an established fact, and surely our boys deserve anything we can give them. The loading of frozen meat on the s.s. Gallic has been attended by most Unfortunate weather. Two barges were taken out on Friday last, and operations have so far ceased, the bar being unworkable. Even the two barges that went out broke away from the ship's side, one full of meat and the other empty. The barges have been lying at anchor until this morning, when the WeTcre was able to get out and take on board the men, who must have had a trying experience- Owing to a falling tide one barge of meat, with the men aboard, had to be taken to New Plymouth.
