BURNSIDE. Dunedln, May 26. There wsb a very heavy yarding of all classes of stock to-day. Fat Cattle.—Prices were on a p&r with late rates. Prime bullocks made from £2l to £24 2s Cd, medium £lB to £2O, light £ls to £l7 10s. Store Cattle.—A full market with good competition. Prices were about 7s 6<J above late market rates. Fat Sheep.—Freezing buyers were active competitors, this resulting In prices being well maintained. Lambs.—Prime heavy-weight lambs 50s to 575, prime lambs 28s to 40s, medium 24s to 275, lighter kinds from 18s up. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as follows: Our first clearing sale for the season was held on 20th May, at Mr J. R. Hooper's farm, Tarlkl. The day was very wot and cold, but the attendance was good. The cows offered wore somewhat low In condition, but all good sorts were disposed of at full market rates. In-calf heifers were in keen demand, and all offered were sold; Prices realised were as follow; Cows, second and third calvers, £lO to £22; i.e. heifers £7 5s to £ls, balls 20-month £3, 2-year £4. Store pigs, 13s to 16s; breeding sows, £2 17s 6d and £3 10s. Mixed sheep, 15s. Fowls 4s 3d. On Tuesday, 25th May, we hel'd our Stratford sale. We had a fair yarding, but competition was very slack, except for weaner and i.e. heifers. Sheep were neglected. The following prices were realised Store cows, £4 8s 6d; weaner Jersey heifers, £6 7s 6d; weaner heifers, £4 4s; weaner steers, 34s Cd to £3 ss, I.e. helfere £5 to £ls. Private Sales—Four and 6-tooth ewea, 30s to 325; 4 and 6-tooth wethers, 32s Cd) 2 and 4-tooth wethers, 30s 9d; 4 and 6-tooth ewes, 32s 6d; I.e. heifers £ll to £l3 10s, Jerseyß, £lB 10s. INGLEWOOD SALES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Farmers' Co-op. Society held a clearing sale at Kaimata on Monday last on account of Messrs Henwood and Hundley The live stock sold well. The dairy herd, which comprised a large proportion of Shorthorns, averaged £2O. Some of the cows which were distinctly of Jersey strain reached £35, counteracting the lower prices given for the less popular breed. Steer calves sold for 31a, and heifers 795. The farm implements and sundries sold at satisfactory rates. The same firm's Inglewood yards on Wednesday were fairly well filled with cattle, sheep not being so numerous as at recent sales. The tone of the market was not lively; good lines of stock were brought forward, but owners are neglectful and do not give the firm notice of their Intention to bring cattle to the salej, with the result that they are not ad-1 vertised, buyers are not encouraged to be pre- 1 sent, competition is wanting and prices are slack. Steer calves sold for 41s Fries lan heifer calves for £3 lis, Jersey weaner heifers from £4 12s 6d to £8 10s, 2-year old in-calf heifers £8 10s, ln-calf Jersey heifers £l2 7s Cd, empty heifers £6, 18 to 20-month steers £3 19s, Jersey heifer (calved) £l3 15s, and store cows £4 10s to £B. . The clearing sale on account of the estate of the late Mr. J. Bowo and of Mr. L. Rowe held by Newton King, Ltd., at the farm, Junction Road East, on Thursday, was a success lh spite of rough weather conditions. There was a large gathering of buyers, and a brisk sale resulted.
