PERSONAL.

Mr. F. J. Rolleston has been elected chairman of the Timaru Harbor Board for the ninth consecutive term (says a Press telegram). As a result of nominations closing on Wednesday for an elective member of the Taranaki Land Board, Mr. C. J. Ryan was duly elected, his being the only nomination received. This action speaks well for the continued confidence reposed in him by the Crown tenants. Mr. N. R. Cleland, of Kohuratahi, whose term as a member of the Land Board was shortly expiring, has been reappointed a member, and he received the felicitations of the chairman and his fellow members at the Board's meeting on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Young, who have been residents of Tariki for several years past, are leaving on Tuesday evening for where they intend to reside. On Monday evening they will be tendered a public farewell by residents of the district.

Miss M. Elias, who has been a supervisor at the Hawera Telephone Exchange for the past two and a half years, and whose splendid work is reflected in the very efficient service which subscribers receive, has been transferred to New' Plymouth, where she will commence duty next week. Miss Miller, of the Wellington Exchange, has been ap-_ pointed to fill the vacancy in Hawera. Mr. Victor Turner, second son of Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Turner, of Manaia, returned home on Monday night after seven years absence from New Zealand. When war broke out Mr. Turner, with his elder brother Claude, was in England. Both enlisted and saw active service, Claude being gassed in France, and invalided home. Victor put in four years' service in Palestine, and he returned to New Zealand by the lonic last week.

Mr. H. T. H. Grave, manager of the New Plymouth branch of the Standard Insurance Company, has received notice from the head office of the company of his transfer on promotion to the managership of the Auckland branch of the company. Mr. Grave has been in his present position for about four years, and takes up his new appointment, on July Ist. During his residence in New Plymouth he has been closely associated with the activities of the Methodist Church, and his removal will mean a loss to the Church in both the town and country districts. Mr. Grave's successor in the local office has not yet been announced.
