TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. | tfO-NIGHT'S TOURNAMENT. The Taranaki Boxing Association open their first tournaunent at tlie Empiro Theatre tills evening anil continue to-morrow evening. Tlie uumbcr of ontrles received is a guarantee of a line two evenings sport for the public. All the amateur events up to the finals will he staged to-night if possible. In the event of all the bouts goinc the full number of rounds it may be necessary to reserve' some of the seml-lina Is for the second night. A particularly pleasing feature of the tournament, is the number of heavyweight boxers competing, no leas than live having made entries. This entry Is probably a record for the North Island, and as every contestant is well up In the noble art it should be worih going a long way to see. The four professional boxers are all In the pink of condition, and cadi confident of success. The result on eiiher night is very open, ami success will only he gained after a strenuous contest. To-night George Richardson (New Plymouth) is matched against T.piimy Thompson (Toko) in a ten-round lliree minute contest. Richardson has a splendid record of twenty lirsts in professional fights, but will need all his skill and ringcrafl to defeat Thompson, who has had a series of successes in France and England, and Is at. present, at the very top of his form. To-morrow night Wlnlkl (Stratford) will meet Brown (New Plymouth) and this'also win be a very close and even contest. Mr. Tim Tracey, of Wellington, is the official referee.
