LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. At Opunake, on Monday, we had a fair yarding of cattle. Bidding was very slack, and most of the dairy ca.ule offered were passed in. At Okaiawa, on Monday, 17th., we held.our usual sale and report a good entry. Forward and-store cows were yarded; competition was not keen, but nearly all were sold. At Hawera, on Thursday, owing to the very rough weather, not much stock was yarded, and buyers were not numerous. We quote: Good store pigs £1 17s to £2, lambs Ids, cull ditto 10s lid, 4 and 6-tooth wethers £1 7a Cd, ditto ewes 18s, fat cows £lO 15s to £ll, store ditto £5 10s tc. £7, boners £4 ss, bulls £6, yearling steers £1 10s, 20-month steers low condition £3 lis, springing heifers £9, Jersey bull 15% guineas, dairy 'cows £9 to £l6 ss. At Jiaponga, on Friday, rheie was not a large entry, but all the stock yarded was sold at the hammer or afterwards. Prices: Forward cows £(i 17s to £7 17s Gd, boners £8 to £4 12s, 20-month Holsteln steers (well grown) £5 15s, dairy heifer calved £l2 10s, springing heifers, Holsteln igood) £l6, weaner heifers 335, diito sieers 245. At Waietlcy, on Friday, owing to the boisterous weather there was not a particularly big yarding of stork. A fair proportion of the entry changed hands. Following are some of the sales: Fat lambs 2:ls, fair ditto 18s, Down cross ditto 14s, fat ewes 255, 22 bullocks, 314-year, £l2 15s. 40 low conditioned cows £4 17s, slightly better cows K<i, 20-mouth steers £3 10s to £4, weaner tielfers well-grown £4 to £4 6s, dairy heifers £lO 15s. AUCKLAND MARKETS. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency CO. bfrt. report:— Dairy, cattle were penned In average numbers at Westfleld, and sold under steady competition at late rates. Best dairy cows 11ml heifers £lO to £25 15s, good sound young cows, backward, £l2 to £ls 10s, others. £8 to £U 15s. Ewes in lamb sold at from ITs 6d to £1 lis 6d. There was a good entry at Henderson. Calves were easier, runners .selling from £S 13s to £ll 12s 6d. heavy vealeiv, £3 to £3 14s medium £2 5s to £2 18s, light £1 15s to £2 4s, lighter £1 to £1 12s Od, fresh-dropped 14s to 17s. An extra large entry of pigs sold at much the same as last week. Medium to heavy baconers £4 5s to £5 15s heavy porkers £3 5s to £4 4s. light £2 to'£3 4s. unfinished tills Od to £1 14s (Id. Sheep: prime cives £1 lis to £1 16s, .medium £1 7s 3d to £1 10s Od. light and unfinished £1 3s Od to £1 7s. Lambs sold at late rate 3. Heavy prime lambs £1 7s Od to £1 lis 6d, medium £1 4s to £1 7s, light and unfinished £1 to £1 3s Cd. HIDE AND TALLOW SALES. Messrs. Dalgety (Wellington) report as follows : The usual sale was held yesterday on May 21, and on account of the interval Ihe catalogues submitted were larger than usual. There was a good attendance of buyers, and competition was quito keen for all lines of medium and heavy hides, prices being a shade firmer than at our lart salo on 23rd April. The light hides, kips and calfskins all sold at satisfactory prices considering the drop that has taken place in the market in the meantime, and rates were on a par with our last sale to a shade lower. Damaged and inferior hides are difficult of sale, but we cleared all our catalogue at satisfactory prices. In sympathy with the London market, tallow prices were considerably lower, the drop being from Es to 10s per cwt, according to quality.
