KAPONGA.

RESIDENTS EAREWELLED. (From a Correspondent.) Considering the very inclement weather prevailing there was a very representative gathering at Kaponga Town Hall on Thursday evening when a farewell social was tendered to Mr. jind Mrs. A. H. Guy and Mr. and Mrs. Hdinund Mills. Dancing was the principal amusement of the evening, Mr. W. Marr as M.G, keeping matters moving merrily to music provided by Mrs. Bennie. Several extras were also played. Supper provided by the ladies was done full justice to, after which dancing was kept up until the early hours. During an interval Mr. W. B. Eearon, chairman of the Kaponga Town Board, apologised for the absence of Messrs. 0. Hawken, M.P., C. A. Wilkinson and D. L. Astburv. He also referred at some length to the valuable services that Mr. (Juy had rendered to the town as a member of the Town Board for 14 years, during practically the whole of which he had been chairman. He was responsible largely for bringing the town into line with the larger centres; having fathered the water and drainage schemes, the electric light installation and the cinema, all under Town Board control. He was also mainly responsible for the establishment of a central park. He had also been a director of the dairy factory, and had been chair man of practically every sports body, and, indeed, of every movement for the advancement of the town. Reference was also made to the valuable services he had rendered during the epidemic. While expressing regret' at Mr. Guy's departure from Kaponga, he was pleased that he was going to reside in an adjoining district. Messrs. A. V. Tait, chairman of the dairy fatcory, and M. Power, one of the earliest settlers in Kaponga, also made eulogistic reference to Mr. Guy's valuable services to the town and district. The chairman then, on behalf of the townspeople and people of the surrounding districts, presented Mr. Guy with an illuminated address and Mrs. Guy with a silver tea service and tray suitably inscribed. Mr. M. Power then referred to the re-1 gret felt at the departure from the district of Mr. and Mrs. E. Mills. Mr. Mills had been a resident of the town for a long period, and had also served on the Town Board and assisted in every move for the betterment of the town. On behalf of the townspeople and settlers he presented Mr. and Mrs. Mills with a tea service. Mr. Mills intends to reside in Stratford.
