BATHER IN DRESS SUIT.
AN EARLY MORNING SWIM. During the small hours of Wednesday morning two men, wearing evening dress, were walking along High Street, Christchurch. They had apparently been attending some convivial or social gathering, as both were in high spirits. As they approached the largo cold water tank, which was once a part of the city's fire-fighting scheme, they had a friendly argument about the merits of early morning bathing- One of tho men offered to bet the other a shilling that he would not dive in. The words had hardly been uttered before the challenge was taken up and his companion was ''over the top" and into the water with a splash. Having once got in the next question was how to get out, and this turned out to bo a much more difficult proposition than the bather had anticipated. In fact if it had not been for the arrival of some very interested spectators the comedy might have become a tragedy. It was a. very cold and wet figure in evening suit that came out of the tank.
