EXPORT OF POTATOES.
REMOVAL OP EMBARGO WANTED. NEW MARKETS SUGGESTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last NightA deputation from the Potato Growers' Association waited on the Prime Minister with a request that steps should be taken to have the Australian embargo lifted on 'the importation of New Zealand potatoes. It was pointed out that the crops were good and practically free from disease, there was a surplus, and all growers "wanted was a fair price. The market value of £3 10s to £4 did not leave a profit. Mr. Masse? said it was impossible to avoid loss at £3 10s. There had been several communications, unsuccessfully bo far, with Australia, although it had been urged that the New Zealand crop was very free from disease, and a thorough inspection was suggested. The present quarantine conditions made importation to Australia impossible. He would try again, for the matter was as important to Australia as to New Zealand, and, if nothing could be done,, he was prepared to try Honolulu, San Francisco, and even Vancouver.
