At time of .'writing (Tuesday nounj the wind is in a bad quarter, and heavy showers appear imminent. However, the racing track can do with a little moisture, and possibly conditions may be favorable on Thursday. Most of the horses engaged at the meering are already on the course, but Master Strowan, who raced at. Klccarton on Saturday, has no hope- of reaching Wanganui owing to the shipping trouble. Mr. W. It. Kemball's horses axe present in full force, and J. Prosser also has a good team there. Most of the horses that raced at Hawera last week have arrived, and the tracks aro very busy. Training operations were conducted on Tuesday morning under ideal conditions Lord Nagar and Omahu shaped best over the small sticks, and the hitter has come In for spirited support for the Century Hurdles. Kauri King looks well, but he Is not jumping as well as usual. Lord Nagar pleased the crowd by his smart fencing, but the distance may trouble him In the Century Hurdles. Slola looks in grw.t heart, and is likely to win a raco at the mooting. Locheila jumped tho small fences in compan;,, and went best. Gladful did not appear at home in a couple of rounds of the steeplechase course, and Old Kungindl fenced much bettor. Maraetotara, a fancied Steeplechase candidate, looks fit and was given a couple of solid rounds, on the flat. i The acceptances received on Monday evening for the first day's races are fairly good, | and tho fields are quite large enough to en-1 sure interesting racing. Blndie, Bo Peep and j Ruddy are much discussed candidates in the Borough Handicap. Luke and First Tall hold their ground in tho Hack Steeples, and Wirokino awl Old Mungindi in the big Steeples. The Century Hurdle Race looks very open, but Omahu, Goldstream, lord i Nagar. and Locheila appear to be most fancied. Locheila and Applaud appear to be a cut above the moderate lot in the Hack Hurdles. Marqueteur. Hude.
