May lj. riie Stratford Liberal-Labor League has arrangements in hand for twideriii.f a social to Mr. R. Masters, M.l'., and it i's expected tliat the function will be held in a fortnight's time. Thert was a large {fathering of members of the Stratford Club last n\«\\i, when opportunity was taken to hid farewell to Mr. J. R. L. Stanford and Mr. 11. C. Alexander, both of whom are leaving Stratford, after several years residenee in the town. Presentation'; from the club members were made to both gentlemen. Mr. Alexander was also the recipient of a presentation from the local staff of the Bank of New Zealand the presentation being made by Mr. w! J. Crawshaw, the manager of the Bank. Mr. and Mrs. Stanford leave Stratford next week for Marton, and Mr. and Mrs. Alexander for the South Island. The Pembroke Road school was packed to the doors last night on the occasion of the farewell tendered to Mr. and Mrs. L. Rogers, who are leaving the district. Mr. Newbold made a presentation of a silver teapot and a set of military hairbrushes to the guests of the evening, who made suitable acknowledgments. Musical items were given by Misses Rogers and Boyle; and Messrs', A. Belcher and Wade (bag-pipes). Messrs. Newbold and Jans were efficient M.C's for the dancing. * There was a big attendance at the first of a series of dances held in the Stanley Road School last night. The floor was in good order, and those present spent a thoroughly enjoyable time. Mrr. Bianchi provided the music for the dancing. Messrs. Kerrisk and Chard acted as M.C's and Mesdames Weller, Richmond, and Jans supervised the sup-' per arrangements. The long winter evenings will be cheerier and more instructive if you have the now educational card game of "Corner." suitable for three to six players.
