Loan And Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd. have received the following cablegram from their London house under date May 12, 1920: We quote present Bpot values for the following descriptions of tallow: Fine mutton £4 Ss, good beef £4 ss, miied £4 Is, No demand for fine mutton tallow. INGLEWOOO SALE. The tone of the market at the FanmeTs' Co-op. yards, Inglewood, on Wednesday, 12th. showed no great Improvement, and some lines were hard to place. This was perhaps noticeable with steer calves more than any other Rtock offered. There was a fair muster of stock, most of which were sold, in 'act almost alt the slteep changed hands. Quotions are: For weaner steers from 23s 6d for ordinary to 30s for Holstein strata, 2>iyear steers £G 7s GU, Jersey weaner heifers £6l Is to £7 4s, empty heifers £6 10s, incalf heifers £6 10s, ln-calf heifers £l4, we:igrown Hoistein heifers £ll ss, Jersey heifer* springing £l7, store cows up to £8 ss, lambs sold At from 14s 2d to 10s 6d, good wellgrown woolly lambs reached 30s, empty ewes sold to 17s, and wethers for 28s 6d. LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. On Monday, at Kakararaea, we had a fair yarding of grown cattle. Bidding was not brisk, and all classes of cattle allowed a downward tenency. We quoto: Fat and forward co\vs £8 5s to £9 ss, stores at late rates, bulls £7 to £ll, yearling steers (good) £2 7s 6(1 to £2 17s 6d. weaner heifers £2 18s 6d, lambs 22s 2d, culls 5s Bd. Owing to Wednesday being Included In the Egmont race meeting, we held our Eltham Salo on the. Tuesday, and the alteration tD this day no doubt made the sale dull and smaller than usual. In spite of this the whole yarding practically changed owners before leaving. Fat cows £lO 5s to £lO 12s fid, forward ditto £8 10s to £9 103, stores £4 to £6 18s, mixed weanere £2, 4, 0-tootli and fun. wethers (small) 31s. We held our Hawera. sale on Friday, owing to Thursday, our usual day, falling on the second day'of the Hawera races, We had a rmall yarding of cattle, which sold in favor of renders. Fat and forward cows £1) Gs to £lO 6s, stores (good) £7 10s to £8 16s, .medium stores £4 2s Od to £5 12s 6d, fat empty heifers £9 lis, 15-month steers £3 2y 2 -year steers £8 ss, weaner pigs 14s Gd. On the same day, at Waverley, we had a good yarding of cattle. The attendance was poor, doubtless owing to the Eltham races. Bidding was very slack, and several lots were passed in. We quote: Fat cows £l2, fat and forward cows £7 to £8 10s, 18months ms. £4 ss, Hereford heifers r.w.b. £5 12s Gd to £6 ss, IS-ju*ths steers £6 49, Hereford bulls £lO lis. FARMERS' CO-OP. REPORT. At the Opunake Yards on Monday, 10th., we held our usual sale. The yarding was not large, but practically all changed hands and prices were in favor of the purchasers. Weaner pigs made 12s Gd, fat sheep 31s, lambs 17s to £1 Bs, dairy cows £l2, springing heifers £ll 10s, bulls £7 ss, best" cows £lO 10s, lighter forward ditto £8 3s to £9, store ditto £0 15s, boners £4, 20-month steers low condition £3 17s, Jersey weaaier heifers good £B, others £3 17s, Shorthorn ditto £2 7s, steers £1 Is to £1 83. At Manalit, on Tuesday, there was a fairly good yarding. Vendors were prepared to accept the lower rates at present ruling, and the whole yarding was sold. Dairy heifers were not sought for. Quotations: 5-year mare milk carter £24, horse, saddle, and brldlo £B, bulls £5, best cows £l2 12s Gd, forward ditto £9, heifers ditto £7 7s 6d to £8 ss, boners £4 2s fid to £5, Jersey cross weajier heifers £5, Shorthorn ditto £3 7s, dairy cows £l2. At Stratford, on Tuesday, we report a good yarding and a good sale of cattle. Ewes in lamb yarded were slack of sale. Fonvara cows showed a. good rise on late sales, also dairy cows close to profit. In-ca,lf heifers brought £lO 12s 6d. dairy cows to £23, best cows £l2 2s, weaners and young cattle at late rates. At Inglewood, on Wednesday, we had a yni'se yarding of stock. In the majority of cases vendors were short of feed, and had rnmo prepared to meet the market. Although prices wore low amd bidding was slack practically everything was soldi. At Auroa. on Friday, there was a fair yarding of light and medium cows, which were all sold. Bidding was not brisk, but vendors were anxious In sell. In-oalf heifers were not In great demand.
