THE MAGON CASES.

THE MAGISTRATE'S SENTENCES. In the Magistrate's Court on Saturday, Charles and Frederick Magon were brought up for sentence on 15 charges of theft to which they had pleaded guilty and on which sentence had been deferred by the Magistrate pending the hearing of a more serious charge against them in the Supreme Court. Mr. Ronald H. Quilljaitt appeared for the prisoners and urged that any sentence imposed should be made concurrent with that inflicted by the Judge of the Supreme Court. The Magistrate concurred in this view and inflicted fines of £5 on each accused in each of the seven cases in which the value of the goods stolen was over £3. In the other eight cases he simply entered convictions against the accused, being of opinion that a longer period of detention was unnecessary and hoped tho punishment inflicted by the Court would have a salutary effect.
