WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Waitara School Committee lield its monthly meeting on Monday Mr, T. R. Ford (chairman) presiding- The headmaster reported that the school had been having a bad run owing to changes of teachers and the prevalence of sickness, he himself having had to have a month oft on account of sickness. Mr. Hg.ll, who replaces Mr. Butler, assistant head teacher, had commenced his duties, and tilings should soon seLtle down to normal again. The attendance had been poor, and unless an improvement were made the retention of the staff would be in danger, as 281 was the minimum to retain the present staff. The headmaster drew attention to the choked up discharge pipes and asked for them to be attended to. it was resolved that the Board's attention be drawn to the state of the pipes in question.
The chairman reported that in response to notices sent to parents re the hot in id-dav drink for the children, 00 had replied agreeing to pay fid or a Is per week, according to the number of children. It was resolved to engage the service of Mr. Kineny to take charge of the meal as soon as the necessary equipment arrives.
It was resolved to make application to the Board for better heating arrangements for the school and also for improvements to the unlined technical room where classes are taken. Mrs. Adamson, who has been in business here for a number of years, has sold out to Mrs. Caldwell. Mrs. Adamson will join her husband in Ipswich, Queensland, where Mr. Adamson lias taken up a lucrative position as a dyer and cleaner- _ The lire brigade are resuscitating their annual ball, which before the war was always held on King's Birthday, ■lid .Tune. Mrs. Sheehan had the misfortune to dislocate her arm and sustain minor injuries.
