DRESS AND DANCING.
QUEEN SETS LATEST FASHION. London, April 27. The Daily Mail states that the rapid rise in the prices of clothes is incensing London citymen. A group of stockbrokers, who pride themselves on being :ne best-dressed men in the world, hankers, lawyer-, and others, will start, on May 3, a protest movement similar to that which began in America, and will s don engineers' overalls and dungarees- The tailors demand £l9 19s and £2l for lounge suits, and say that higher figures are expected. They accuse the manufacturers of gross profiteering. The Lord Chamberlain's office lias become the centre of nttrnnMon for society women, having adopted the novel coui of displaying appr<i.eu dcMgns for court dresses, suitable for debutantes, young matrons, and dowagers. The dresses are all minus trains, feathers, headgear, flowers, hooped skirts, wires and wide paniors. The Queen selected the designs with a view to the virtual adoption of ordinary sleeved evening dresses, showing graceful lines, with moderate decolletage, lace, or chiffon draperies. Mile- Pavlova, the Russian danseuse, interviewed by a representative of the Daily Express, stated that the modern ballroom dance was ungraceful and not beautiful. It was also too familiar. "This ballroom dancing," she said, "is always the same. There is no scope, and no space. What monotony, and what a bore it is!"
