STRATFORD MODEL DAIRY FARM. REPORT FOR APRIL. Root Crops—The mangels and earrrits continue to do well, The swotfes In field n are a good regular crop. In field 13 also, the crop, generally speaking. Is good. It Is early yet to- draw any comparisons in respect to the different strains and varieties growing. There to a small amount of dry rot in the crop ♦i. oa I. —^' lo ' ar,t loa[l was fed out on the ~oth, and all tho ground, except the last piece cleared, lias been sown with oats and tares. Some soft turnip varieties in the small plots were weighed on tho 9tli April, and gave the following weights per acre:— Mlmoreirt Late Mammoth, !U tons 8 cwt' vllmorein's I'urple Top, 2!) tons 11 cwt • Til. moren's Early Purple Top Milan, 10 toils 11 To " L ™ s Keep'ne Ttel--20 tons 11 cwt.; Vilmoren's Early Aurergne Flat Top Red, 30 tons 4 cwt.; Vilmoren's Purp.e Top White Globe, 28 tons 5 cwt • Vil?l ren 'n°. re^ n T .? p ' 15 t0I « « cwt.; Vilmoren's Large Red Top Norfolk, 20 tons 11 cwt • Vilmoren's Large White Norfolk, 23 tons 2 'cwt ; J ihnoren s Early White Strap Leaved 1G tons " : Carton's Deep Golden Yellow 1C tons 14 cwt. Vilmoren's Late Mammoth also proved a good cropper and excellent keeper. There was no rot and the turnips were sound rifht . through.. The remainder of the Vilmoren's strains were light croppers. Some of these, however especially Early White Strap Leaved White Norfolk, and Red Norfolk, were past heir best and there was practically no weight claimed for these varieties Is that tliev mature very quickly, grow fiat on the ground, with a very smal' tap root., and consequently are very easy, to pull. Cabbages.—ln the main crop some weights were taken on the 30th April, and the yields per aero of the varieties tested aro as follows Robinson's Champion Ox, 32 tons S cwt.; Sutton's Giant Drumhead, 33 tons 6 cwt • Cooper s Giant Drumhead, 32 tons 8 cwt" • Carton's Selected Drumhead, 26 toii3 17 cwt' Gartons Large Cattle Drumhead, 20 tons 17 cwt.; Garton's Extra Early Exnress 24 ton? 1 cwt ; Gallon's Early Oxlieart, 14 tons 16 cwt.. Robinsons Champion Ox grew to a good size and aro a very fine crop, uniform in shape with a good heart, though not so heavy at Sutton's Giant Drumhead, which is more solid. Cooper's Giant Drumhead matured earlier than the two former, of .medium size, very firm at the heart not so much outer leaf, and these more closey folded. Each of theso varieties mentioned has proved valuable as a jnaln cron f'nr ton's If we Cattle Drumhead matured' about he middle of March, but did not show a"y tendency to bolt to seed. Several other varieties have not yet come to their best- these will be weighed later. tnese
