THE RAILWAY TROUBLE.
HEARING OP THE DISPUTE. CONCILIATION COMMITTEE OPENS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, May 14. The Conciliation Committee to investigate the dispute with the A.S.R.S. meets to-day. Mr. Bullock, superin* tendent of the New Zealand Shipping Company, is chairman. The department's representatives are Messrs. McDonald, Assistant General Manager, Mr. Mouat, chief clerk, and Mr- McArley, advertising manager. The society's representatives are Messrs. Hampton, president, Mack, secretary, and P. Carr. In the E.F.C.A. dispute the arrangement is that two outside representatives are to be. selected- The society has nominated Messrs. W. D. Hunt and .Air. Dickson, M.P. The Government lias not announced its nominations yetThe order of reference directs the tribunal to inquire and report to the Minister of Railways on such matters affecting the rates of wages and conditions of work of the Second Division as may be brought before it by the department or the A.S.R.S. The tribunal is directed, if possible, to report soon. The inquiry may be conducted in public if, and whenever members think lit. To-day's proceedings were private. The Prime Minister attended the opening of the tribunal.
Wellington, Last NightConsideration of the matter went on satisfaqtorily during the afternoon, and will be resumed to-morrow.
The representatives of tlie Government on the locomotive dispute committee will be Mr. James Marehbanks, formerly chief engineer of the old Manawatu Railway Company, and Mr. W. H. Millward, sometime maanger of the Gear Meat Company.
