The committee and officials of the Eltham Racing Clnb are to be congratulated on the success that attended the inaugural meeting lipid yesterday in fine weather on the Hawcra racecourse, which, with its appointments, had been generously placed at the new Club's disposal by the E«mont Club. The attendance, considering that it was a nontotalisator meeting, was very good, and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. Racing throughout proved very inter-, eating. The fields were good, and the finishes in the majority of instances exciting. The course, though holding, was in splendid order, despite the fact that there had just been two heavy days' racing- This reflected the care of the custodian, Mr. A. Morse, who also officiated as starter. Mr. R. P. Morrissey occupied the judge's box. Mr. L. 0. Hooker controlled the number board.
Mr. MeMahon, the stipendiary steward, was present, but only had one inquiry. The inquiry concerned alleged boring by Eiki in the Maata Hack Handiaap, S- Anderson, the rider of Riki, being cautioned. The first Eltbam Cup attracted a field of seven, the winner turning up in the New Plymouth owned mare Mimiri. Mr. Alexander's win was a very popular one. The arrangements for the meeting were splendid, and the races wore all got off well to time. Mr. W. .T. Tristram, the secretary, carried out his duties thoroughly, And he was ably assisted by Messrs. K. Bain and Northover. The catering was in the hands of Messrs Dustin, Ltd. of Wanganui, whilst Mr. E. Whittle, of New Plymouth, controlled the refreshment booth. The Hltham Pipe Band was present and rendered a number of selections. Detailed results are as follow:

The consistent Imaiibbon will be a TUimer !>i tho Royal Handicap to-day, and on paper fihe looks to have a big chanco. Personally f prefer Kilrush at a difference of 9lbs. The Wanganui Cum winner goes very fast over Ihe last couple of furlong's of a anile and a half.
The crowd engaged in the Cornwall and Sar.tfrinsham Handicaps at Rlccarton are not much class. Outside Starland there does not appear to he a ten furlongs horse worth mentioning in the Cornwall Handicap, but Torfrcdn, Mustard Pot, and Hetr.ua promise to mVsP the Sanurln;'hnm Welter interesting. Truhiof "F. Higgott bad a glorious time at Hawera. winning the three steeplechase events with two horses. "Frank" is a jovial sort o; "core." and nobedy begrudged h)m a turn luck.
The big dividends of the Egmont mecttng wore returned by Big Push and Rude. "Big f'ush has meed consistently of late, and paid ,x false price In the Shorts. Undo generally races best when, fresh, a fact that most' people overlooked on Wednesday. If Silenr Dick had won the 'Hack Steea;*?ch.ise instead o: finishing third he would h'tvft returned a dividend Vn tho proilmity ;f three-quarters of a. century. Tom Cnrso!: will win a race with the Maniapoto gi'iduu r very shortly. They made Generalissimo very hot in tho Hack Handicap, and the halfbrother to Madam'-Itistori won very nicely, lit will see a better da-y,. "Mick" King was tho 'tin thU but his horses, Whiz-'Bang an.l Miss t'.ve wore sent up t) Hawera in charg? nf A Trlcklebank.
