An instance of the big increase in the price of furniture was given by one of the employers' assessors at last week's sitting of the Conciliation Council, at Christchurch, This gentleman stated that in 19U Chinese seagrass for wickerwork furniture could be landed in Christchurch for £lO per ton, whereas it now cost £96. A sengraos chair, which formerly coßt £'2 as, liad now to bring upwards of £4 in order to meet the increased cost of production.
