HOLIDAYS BY AIR.
IMPROVEMENT TO AEROPLANES.
By Telagraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.
Received May 12, 7.30 p.m. Sydney, May 12. In connection with the recent cabled improvements to aeroplane wings, a letter has just l)een received in Sydney from Mr. Handley Page, who states the improvement will result in the production of small aeroplanes costing £l5O to £2OO, houseable in premises no bigger than coal-sheds, and useable for a weekend journey of five hundred miles. The_ development will enable a machine with a span of, say, a hundred feet, to reduce its plane area to fifty feet, and yet retain the same carrying capacity. The same will apply to all classes of mach- [ ines.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Asan.
[A recent cable message stated that Handley Page's improved design for aeroplane wings has passed the official tests. It will enable loads to be increased 20 to 40 per cent, and also permit aeroplanes to ascend and alight within smaller grounds. The improvement can be fitted to any existing wing. It is regarded as a great step in aviation, giving designers a bigger margin whereby the •strength, safety and comfort of aeroplanes will be increased.]
