HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER.
REQUIREMENTS OF TARANAKI. POWER BOARD WANTED. The establishment of a Hydro-Electric Power Board for Taranaki" was again brought before the Eginont County Council at its meeting yesterday by the chairman (Cr. W. R. Wright), who'stated that at its last meeting the Council had passed u. resolution asking the New Plymouth Borough Council to call a meeting of Taranaki local bodies to discuss the formation of a Hydro-Electric Power Board for Taranaki, but beyond acknowledging the. letter, nothing had been done. <Jr. Wright said he noticed that the New Plymouth Borough Council were now raising a loan for the purpose of extending their plant. That might help the people in the town, but it would not help those in the country. They wanted a Hydro-Electric Power Board established for the whole of Taranaki, and as far as he could see the only available source of supply was the Waiwakaiho river. Cr. Wright said that, according to experts, the supply from the Waiwakaiho would be suflieient to supply the district as far as Hawera. As far as the Opunake scheme was concerned, there need be no jealousy, because there was not enougli electricity to go round. There was no need for friction, as the Opmrnkc scheme would only supply the district immediately around Opunake, whereas he was out to get power for the whole of the Egmont County.
It was decided to request the HydroElectric League at Stratford to call a meeting of local bodies to establish a Power Board for Taranaki.
