U.S. NAVY CRITICISM.

REPLY BY NAVAL SECRETARY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Washington, May 10. Mr J. Daniels, Secretary for the Navy, highly praised Admiral Benson's saying "We would as soon fight Britain as Germany." He denounced Admiral Sims as pro-British and declared that the achievement of the United States navy had caused the world to marvelMr. Daniels, replying to Admiral Sims' paval criticism, said that Admiral Sims lacked vision and belittled the navy's work while extolling the British navy. He was covered with British decorations and refused to co-operate with the department. His greatest ambition was to become an honorary member of the British Admiralty. The officers who supported Admiral Sims' charges were largely people with grievances. Admiral Sims never hesitated to urge the views of the British Admiralty as against those of the United States Naval Department. He minimised everything the United States navy did. Admiral Sims attacked the Irish people as unpatriotic. If the department had known his published articles were to include this attack it would have refused permission for their publication.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
