PROTEST AT HIGH PRICES. By Telegraph.—Pr«*s Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, May 10. - The Press is echoing the outcry against the high prices of meat. Cattle t nip hciiit? rushed into the market owing to the drought over a large extent of tlip grazing areas, causing a glut of beef. The wholesalers are paying 3d to ft%d for killed meat, which is being retailed at 8d to '2a. At the present time the whole cold storage in New South Wale* is crammed with beef, nutton and rnbbits. It is estimated that, the equivalent of half a million carcases i? awaiting shipment, most of which has beert* frofen for over a year. All the stock coming forward now must be conMimed, hence the outcry at the high prices with a glutted market. Graziers are fearful that besides the • present losses the drought will endanger the lambing season. They declare that unless soaking droughtbreaking raip, of which at present there are no indications, fall during the preunt month lambing will be practically a total failure. The outlook at best is serious, and a large reduction of the /locks is certain. —Aus.-.N.Z. Cable Assn.
