DIRECT TAXATION FIGURES. By Telegraph.—Preu Assn—Copyright London, May 7In the House of Commons Mr. C- E. £yle asked for the per capita percentages of direct taxation from April, 1914 to April'l92o respectively in Britain, France, ftaly, and the United States. The Chancellor gave the following approximate figures, currency oeing converted at par. In Britain the average amount of direct taxes per' head was, 1914 91*,' 1920 3035; in France in November, 101$, it was 13s 6d and in Decern- , ber, 1919, 47» sd; in Italy, June. 1914, 12» Bd, June, 1919 43s 3d; in the United States, June, 1914, 3s sd; June, 1919; 100s. Under the Budget 1920-21 the British flgure-will be 2875. Mr. Chamberlain declared that he gave tile, figures reservedly and would not be responsible for any inference drawn from them.—lmperial New Service,
