£IOOO PARK FUND.

TO-DAY'S MART. The response to the appeal for gifts for to-day's apple and chrysanthemum mart which being held in the interests of the above fund, has been beyond all expectations. The result will be that to-day's display will be one of the best of its kind ever made. There may perhaps not lw the great variety of goods 011 sale, but both for quality and quantity of those offering they will be hard to surpass. Apples "'ill, of course, form the chief feature in the sale, and large quantities of firstgrade fruit have been donated, nrnl willing workers were biisv yesterday making lip baskets of these which have been most attractively arranged. There will be one stall for apples alone, but there ivill be apples 011 every stall. There have also been large bunches of chrysanthemums sent in and some beautiful blooms will be displayed for sale on the llower stall. Another feature of tho gifts that have been donated is the splendid supply of meats which have been cooked and potted in a variety of ways which cannot fail to appeal to the most epicurean tastes. The meats will be 011 •jale in Jlr. Lightband's shop, Currio street, which has been placed at Mrs. Burgess' disposal for the day. Amongst those gifts there is a roasted sucking pig. The Farmers' Meat Company also donated, in addition to other gifts of meat, a live sheep for weight-guessing competitions. An unusually .large supnly of vegetables, pickles and preserves has come to hand. There will be a, stall for miscellaneous gifts, and any saleable article will be gratefully accepted today. What are still urgently needed arc paper, bags for the retailing of apples, etc., throughout, the day, and these should" be brought in as early as possible to-dav. Mrs. Burgess stated last night that a number of donations had been received Yesterday; and thepe will 1\ acknowledged with othe'rs received when to-day's effort is concluded. The workers in to-day's effort will be served with morning and afternoon tea in Mrs. Burgess' rooms.
