HUNTING.

NORTH TARANAKI HUNT. THE OPENING MEETING. The opening meet of the North Taranakl Hunt, which was hold (it Mr. Blrdlinfc's property at Waltara yesterday afternoon, was a distinct success, and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent by the large assembly. Hares were senrce, and the followers had to negotiate the, sparred fences at their own leisure. The huntsman had the hounds In capital fettle. Horses qualifying for the coming meeting In August next all gained certificates. Mr and Mrs. Blrdllng, hi their usual hospitable way, entertained the hunt to a sumptuous aflernoon tea, which was very much appreciated by the very large number present. Sir. B. H. Chancy, deputy master, In returning thanks, apologised for the absence of 'the president, Mr. C. H. Weston, and also the master, Mr. A. H. Halcombe, who is seriously indisposed. Subsequent to the hunting, a jumping competition was carried out, prizes being donated by Messrs. \V. T. Honkhnm and E. I/. Humphries. The winners wev3 as follows: Maiden Hunters.—Mr Sampson's Brownie 1, Mb. D. Stockman's Cordon 2. First-class Hunters—Mr. Mason's Billy 1, Mr. D. Stockman's Cordon 2. The hunt nest week will be postponed owing to the Hawera races. The following wee* Mr. and Mrs. Sampson, of Sentry HIM, have kindly consented to hate the hunt at their property, and extend a welcome to all.
