THE RUGBY GAME. | tHIJRSDAV COMPETITION. I The Thursday competition was commenced yesterday under favorable weather conditions. SENIORS. J I I TUKAPA (11) t. INGLEWOOD (3). Tukapa seniors Journeyed to Inglewood yesterday, and defeated the local seniors by 11 points to three. The fame was by no mea"ns a brilliant exhibition of Rugby. Inglewood forwards were heavier, and played a fine game, but the Tukapa backs were much superior. Soon after the kick off Tukapa attacked, and a neat kick by Stolir was well taken by Lumsden right in front -of the Inglewood goal, the ball finding touch at half-way. Back came Tukapr and Inglewood were compelled to force. Burkhart was responsible for heading an Inglewood rush, but Tukapa checked, and shooting Die hall out to K. Stohr, the Tukapa five-eighths streaked along the line and scored, Nirholls tackling too high. H. Oliver made a good hut resultless attempt to convert. Brief rushes by the forwards ended In Stewart smartly marking. Inglewood forwards gained a lot of ground, but Burkhart spoilt a nico chance hv picking up Instead of going on with the ball at his toe. An interchange of kicks ensued, after which Inglewood backs essayed lo pass but the touch at the twenty-five There was a brief spel owing to Stewart being injured. Stewart made a nice opening, and a little later a passing bout saw Langdwi kick, and following up fast, nearly scored Inglewood, both backs and forward, were now putting more life into their work, and gave Tukapa an anxious time, until Oliver, with a long kick, lined at the corner. Weak play hy Andrews let Inglewo o d away, but Whltaker picked up and passed to H. Oliver, who streaked for the line but was collared by Nicholls near the corner! A force followed There was another hrief resnltp owing to Chapman being put out of action temporarily. On resuming. Hart marked and Oliver had a shot, which fell short Pas* play ensued, but Tukapa continued t 0 hold the upper hand and forced tlulr opponents Crone had a shot, which fell short. Cameron ami Lnngdnn were associated in a passing bout that gamed little ground, and then from an infringement H. Oliver had another goal hut resultless shot. - After a spell, l n which Inglewood held the advantage, Atkinson secured from th» lino out, and passed to Hart, who dashed across , Crone failed to convert. A nice kick hy rtnggan and a mark by Loverldge let Inglewood past halfway, but a long kick by Stohr drove thorn «m r.! ay c ..
