STRATFORD BY-ELECTION.
MR. J. B. HINE AT ROWAN* While introducing Mr Hine to a Meeting of 40 electors at Rowan, Mr. Maindonald, the chairman, thanked him for his services to the Empire, and while congratulating him on the success of the late election petition, emphasised the necessity of selecting men of Stirling integrity to fill the' councils of the Dominion. After Mr. Hine had addressed the meeting on the line of his previous speeches, a hearty vote of thanks and confidence, moved by Messrs. Hollard and Mellow, was carried unanimously. GOVERNMENT RALLY AT STRATFORD. The following report is supplied: The Town Hall was practically filled in all parts on Saturday on the occasion of the final rally of Mr. .1. B. Hine's workers. Fully 050 electors from every portion of the Stratford electorate attended. Mr. R. M. Cameron occupied the chair. The delegates' reports showed that the Government organisation is complete in every i=ensc of the word, and visitors from the outlying districts were unanimously agreed that the meeting displayed a concrete organisation of forces that should show desired results on Thursday next. The organisers gave short addresses, and Mr. and Mrs. Hine were received with heart-felt enthusiasm from the whole audience. The stage was strewn with flowers by a little group of girls of tender age. Mr. Hine thanked his supporters for the splendid efforts made throughout the campaign, and the ladies received special mention for their self-sacrificing work on his behalf. MR. MASTERS' CAMPAIGN. Tlic following reports are supplied: — The school at Tuna was well filled on Saturday night, when Mr. Masters addressed the electors. Mr. Lobi) presided. The speaker received a most attentive hearing throughout, and a number of questions were satisfactorily answered. Mr. E Anderson moved, and Mr- J. Oroskiuski seconded, That this meeting expresses renewed confidence in Mr. Masters as the member for this district, and hopes to see him returned at the forthcoming election. The motion was carried unanimously amidst cheers. The following resolution was carried at Mr. Masters' meeting at the Pembroke Road school on Saturday: "That this meeting of electors sincerely resents the very mean and unfair advantage taken to deprive Mr. Masters of his seat, which a majority of electors honestly elected him to, and further, heartily thanks Mr. Masters for his most able and convincing address. We ploee every confidence in him as being the right and proper person to represent us in Parliament, and to deal with the Very urgent questions that have to be faced in the near future." The correspondent continues: The meeting was a large one and was held in close attention liV the candidate for nearly two hours. Mrs. T. Cuthbert ably presided over the' gathering, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
