TALLOW MARKET REPORT. Dalgety and Company, Limited, Wellington, report having received the following cablegram from their London office, under date of 28th Instant:—"Tallow: 1090 casks were offered and 1010 sold. Tho demand is chiefly for inferior descriptions. We quote: No color 80s to 82s, gut 75s to 80s, nominal quotation, prime mutton 955, good mutton 90s, good mixed 85s to 88s, edible beef 95s to loss. Buyers are holding off. LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited (Hawera branch), report tor tho week ending May 1: At Kakaramea on Monday we had a fair yarding of cattle. We quote: Light forward cows £9 ss, store cows £5 to £7 ss, weaner heifers 37s Gd, weaner steers £1 3s to 31s, light storo pigs 275, weaners 18s. On Wednesday at Eltham we had a full yarding of both sheep and cattle. Competition was not keen, owing fc railway difficult ties, especially with the young cattle. Our prices were: Fat and forward cows £8 15s to £lO, store cows £5 to £8 ss, boners £3 7s Sd to £4 2s Gd. dairy heifers £l6 15s, 2% to 3-year steers £7 to £8 12s, Jersey weaner heifers £4 2s, woainer heifers (mixed) £2, males 18s, f.f.m. ewes 18s, bulls £5 2s 6d to £ll 15s. At Hawera on Thursday, on account of the railway dislocation, the advertised number did lot come forward. In spite of this we had a good yarding of all classes of stock, and practically all disposed, of before leaving the yards. We quote: Fat and forward cows £9 78 6d to £lO 23 6d, store cows £4 17s 6d to £B, dairy heifers £l4 as to £l7 10s, Jersey heifers £25 ss, 2% to 3-year steers £7 lis to £9 Is, Holstcln heifers, r.w.ib., £l4 7s Gd, weaner heifers £2 Gs to £2 10s, steers £2 3s, fat and forward ewes 265, 2-tooth wethers 28s lid, lambs (good) 20s 6d, cull lambs 9s, wecoer. pigs 14s to 18s, slips 225, unbroken half-draught gelding rising 4 years £24 10s, unbroken half-draught mare rising 4 years £23, unbroken 3-year filly £25. AUCKLAND STOCK MARKET. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Teport:— On Thursday last, at Westfield, wo had an average yarding of dairy cows, which sold under keen competition at high values. Best lows sold from £lB to £25 10s, sound young cows £l3 to £l7 15s, others £8 to £l2 15s, dairy heifers, best £l4 to £lB 10s, others £8 10s to £l3 10s, yearling to 18-month steers £3 to £4 15s, calves 15s to £1 17s 6d, empty cows £5 to £7 ss. At Waluku on Friday we had an average yarding, and report a good sale. Steers, grown £l2 10s to £l4 7s 6d, three to 3%-year £9 to £l2, 2% to three-year £6 12s Gd to £8 17s 6d, yearling to 2-year £3 15s to £0 ss, calves £1 5s to £2 10s, yearling to 18-months heifers £2 17s Gd to £4 10s, empty cows and heifers £5 to £7 10s, heifers (been running with bull) £6 to £9 15s, best dairy cows and heifers £l3 10s to £lB 15s, others £7 10s to £l3 ss, fat cows £9 to £l3 10s, fat steers £l4 to £l6 15s. Pigs wtre penned in large numbers and sold at late rates. Porkers £2 5s to £3 ss, slips £1 10s to £2 2s. weaners 17s to £1 9s. We had a full yarding at. Whitford on Tuesday, and report practically a. total clearance. Dairy cows made from £l3 to £l7 10s for best, others £8 15s to, £l2 17s Gd,' the advertised 18-months Jersey heifers £l3 to £l9 15s, (the lot averaged £ls 15s), other heifers £9 to £l2, 3-year steers £8 12s 6d,
empty cows £4 10s to £5 6s, yearling to 18month steers £3 15s to £4 15s, yearling to 18-month heifers £3 10s to £3 15s, calves 19s to £2 13s, for extra good) lambs, 17s Od to IDs; pigs, weaners 19s to £1 10s, slips £2 103.
At Westflek! fat stock marltet on Wednesday beef was penned in average numbers. Competition was keen for all prime cattle, these being firmer than last report. Plain unfinished were again dull of sale. Choice ox sold to £2 15s per 1001b, prime £2 lis to £2 14s, rough and ordinary £2 4s to £2 10s, cow and heifer beef sold at from £2 2s to £2 lis per 1001b, steers sold at from for best £IS 10s to £25, for a pen of steers fatted by Mr. C. O. Robertson, Otaua, Waiuku, other steers £l3 to £l7 15s, cows and heifers sold at from £8 to £2O 10s. Calves came forward In short supply and improved in value, especially for prime quality. Hunners sold from £5 to £9 2s for the top of a line of Quality runners, averaging £7 2s, heavy vealers £3 10s lo £4 12s Od, medium £3 te £3' lis, light £1 5s to £2 19s, fresh-dropped 10s to £1 4s. Sheep were penned in average numbers. Competition was extra keen, and we report a sharp rlso of 4s to (is per head, all classes. No extra heavy prime wethers or ewes were penned Heavy prime wethers £1 10s (Id to £2 4s, medium £1 Ids Od to £1 19s 3d light, £1 13s 9d to £1 16s 3d, unfinished wethers 17s to £1 19s, medium £1 lis to £1 14s 9d, light £1 9s to £1 10s 9d, unfinished ewes £1 (Is to £1 8s 9d. An average yarding of pigs were dull of sale, few buyers operating, all classes being easier .In price on last week. Baconers.to £5 ss, porkers £3 to £4 ss. Lambs were penned in very small numbers and, as with sheep, prices were considerably better. Heavy prims lambs £1 13s to £1 17s medium £1 10s to £1 12s Od, light £1 Gs to £1 9s 9d, small unfinished lambs £1 2s to £1 5s 9d. .
