DEARER TRAM FARES.
INCREASES AT CTIRISTCHURCH. By Toleeriirli—l'reas Association. Christcliuivh, Last Night. That increases in the farea on the tramways hud been decided upon by the Cliristehurch Tramway Hoard was announced at the Board's open meeting this afternoon. The recommendation* included .flanking the minimum fare for adults 2d, and an increase in the prices of concession tickets had also been decided upon, the price of tickets formerly sold at Is hecoming Is fid, that of tickets sold at 3s becoming -Is. The discount increases in proportion its vhe journey lengthens. These tickets are not to be available on Sundays, Christmas Day, and Good Friday, and they are to be used by only one person in each journey. Tn other words a passenger may not '•shout" ;i ride for a friend. There is to be a reduction in the number of rides represented by school children's and apprentices' tickets. Sunday fares are increased after the first section, a ride in which will cost 2d as on week days. Prices of seaside return tickets are to be rawed considerably. The chairman (the Hon. .T, flnrr. M.LC.) said the cost of material in daily use had increased very considerably In addition heavy increased expenditure had been caused bv repeated increases in wages. The, latest announcement of the Arbitration Court would add a furtheer £&"00 to the wages bill. "The increases in the price of concession tickets was so regulated." said Mr Barr, "that the principle of reducing the cost of transit in accordance with the distance carried was maintained, and the regular rider was charged a lower fare than the casual or cash fare rider."
