BETTER ROADS.
BOROUGH COUNCIL SCHEME. THE £57,000 LOAN SCHEDULE. The ordinary meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council was held last night. In the absence of the Mayor, Cr. W. A. Collis (Deputy Mayor) presided. There were also present: Councillors R. L. Parkin, A. S. Broolcer, W. F. Short, V. J. Hill, and J. W. Hayden, The schedule of £57,000 loan was submitted as follows:—Plant, £11,22.1; public conveniences, £2000: street widening claims, £2000; street improvements, £24,275; extensions to watermains, £10,000; extensions to sewers, £3000; first year's interest and raising loan, £4500; total, £57,000. The proposed street improvements are as follow:—Fitzroy: Waiwaka £693, Barrilml £59, Devon £39, Kowhai £30!), Ronald £225, Snekville £lB2, Devon path £5(11, £2073. Vogeltown: Ballance £317, Pelwyn £lO, Carrington £1824, George £404, Holdsworthy £9B, Mill £344, Smith £433, Tarahua £303, Victoria £l3O, £3803. Frankleigh Park: Govett Avenue £SOB, £SOO. Westown: Belt Road £427, Burns Street £69, Dorset Avenue £2Ol, Dartmoor Avenue £631, Massev £302, Omata £l4B, Seddon £215, ' Webster £264, Wallath £330, Wallace £390, Wallace £55. Tukapa £539, £3G7O. Central: Brougham £297. Brougham £9l, Brougham £95, Currie Lane. £246, Currie Street £249, Eliot £842, Gill £2295, Gover £IS3, Hobson £827, John £328, King £542, Liardet £37, Morley £1530, Powderhnm £264. Queen £066, Vivian £116(1, Standish Hill £203, Ariki £419, Pendarvea £1370, Matson £606, St. Anbyn Street paths £4OO, £12,962; contingencies, £l2ol;.total, £24,275. The manager said that the idea was to give the streets in the central part of the town a finished appearance, and also to give the suburbs one good main footpath. The. Deputy Mayor r-aid that there wan no mention of Doralto Road. Mr. Bellringer said that Doralto Road would be so expensive that it was impossible to include it in the schedule. There wore many rp-<ds that required attention that were not included. The engineer then explained the schedule, after which the manager suggested that the details should be handed to the borough councillors, who should explain them to the various ratepayers' associations. Touching on the plant schedule, the enginc"r explained that this had been reduced from £14,500 to £11,225. On the motion of Councillors Hayden and Parkin the schedule was approved.
