THE SURRENDER OF MAUBEUGE. By Telegraph.—rresa Assn.—Copyright. Received May 2, 11 p.m. Paris, April 30. Sensational evidence was given at the trial of General Fournier and subordinate officers for surrendering Maubeuge in September, 1914. General Pau gave evidence that M. Messiny, Minister of War in August, was indignant at Fournicr's insistent demands for assistance. He ordered Pau to take command and shoot Fournier. Pau inspected the fortress, and agreed with Fournier respecting the defective defences of the fortress, which could not stand a siege of ten days. Instead of shooting him, Pau recommended Fournier for promotion.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn,
