CRUISERS FOR NEW ZEALAND.
•VESSEL WITH SPLENDID WAR SERVICE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, April 29. The Admiralty has presented the cruiser Chatham to New Zealand. The Admiralty has offered the cruiser Diamond to New Zealand for training mercantile marines, New Zealand to bear the expense of refitting. The Diamond is a substitute for the Saphire recently offered. The Philomel is at present refitting alid will shortly depart for New Zealand. Received April .10, 5.5 p.m. London, April 29. The Chatham was paid off on July 16. She will be recommissioned directly a crew is obtained voluntarily to serve in New Zealand on the same terms as the men lent to the Australian Navy. The Chatham did splendid service in the war, including the blockading of Konigsberg.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. [The Chatham is a cruiser of 3400 tons, built in 1912. She has a speed of 25 knots and carries eight Oin. guns.]
