At Sydney the Commodities Commission granted the Vacuum Oil Company permission to increase the prices of kerosene to 18s fld a case, benzoline 30s 6d, ben2ine 27s Gd, and motor spirit 28s. A meeting of the allied building trades vigilance committee in Svdiiev decided on a discontinuance of all Saturday work. It was resolved to picket jobs where men were working. The executive of the committee planning the Prince's welcome to Sydney proposes to erect fift_v arches along liie route, giving each street a distinctive color scheme. Rain which fell at Bathurst and the near west raises hopes of a break up of the disastrous drought. Melbourne reports that Mr. Harold Clapp, vice president, of the St. Louis Railway Company of the United States, haß been appointed Chief Railwar Commissioner in succession to Mr. Norman, who is retiring. The Australian Statistician's report states the cost of living for the March quarter compared with last year increased from 9.3 per cent in Melbourne to 18.3 per cent in Perth.
