The Stratford Reception Committee has decided that in the event of the nonarrival of the Prince to-morrow, all arrangements, with the exception of the j chidren's sports, will be cancelled. The I children's sports will be held in Victoria lark whether the Prince arrives or not. oi e C ' E " JamDS > president of the Stratford Retailers' Association, states that should the visit be cancelled, the shops will remain open all day, but that if the Prince arrives at a later date, the shops will observe suitable holiday hours. The work of erecting the platform and dais on Broadway was continued yesterday, owing to the uncertainty whether the Prince would arrive or not. Should the visit eventuate, either tomorrow or Saturday, Stratford will be quite prepared to carry out its complete programme. THE RAILWAY STRIKE. Tho members of the traffic branch of the railway service struck about 9.30 a.m. yesterday, and the railway yard now presents a very deserted appearance, only a few first division men being still at work. A big letter mail from the south arrived at Stratford yesterday afternoon and regular services have been kept up yesterday and to-day. The postmaster (Mr. J. Brookes) has, however, not yet received any advice as to actual time of the departure* of the mails. HOLY TRINITY CHURCH. The annual meeting of parishioners of Holy Trinity Church, was held last evening, the vicar, the Rev. C. W. Howard, presiding over an attendance of about 60. Mr. W. H. H. Young was elected the vicar's warden and Mr. E. S. Rutherford was re-elected people's warden. The following were elected to the vestry.— Messrs. W- J. Crawshaw, E. Kiveli, E. A. Alger, C. Symonds, T. V. Maunsoll, W. H. Were, W. Rudkin, H. Bottcher and E. Carryer. Mr. E. C. Middleton was re-elected secretary and treasurer, and Mr. C. ir. Penn elected auditor. Votes of thanks were accorded tho churchwardens, office-bearers and the vicar. The vicar paid a tribute to the work of the secretary (Mr. Middleton) and expressed the opinion that the church had had a very successful year. Mr. Howard also conveyed his thanks to Messrs. Fookes and Bottcher for assistance rendered; to the Ladies' Guild, to Mr. Alger (scoutmaster), and to Mr. E. Marfell (Toko Road I. A specv! \ote of thanks was accorded the ladies for help given to the vestry. PRESENTATIONS TO MR. AND MRS. GRANT. At the conclusion of the business portion of the Holy Trinity Church meeting, a social function was held for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr and Mrs. A. F. Grant, who are leaving the district. The vicar regretted that Mrs, Grant had been unable to attend the function as she could not come from New Plymouth on account of travelling difficulties. Mr.' Howard remarked that Mrs. Grant had for a number of years been one of the most devoted and painstaking of church workers and he asked Mr. Grant to be convey to her the parishioners sincere appreciation of her services to the church. The speaker expressed his sincere appreciation of Mr. Grant's services as churchwarden and of the great help lie gave not only in church matters but also in the social welfare of the people. A presentation was made to Mr. Grant of a suit case and travelling rug, and for Mrs. Grant a silver entree dish and cake dish. Mr. E. S. Rutherford and Mr. T. C. Fookes also paid a. tribute to Mr. Grant's services for the church and the | town. I Mr. Grant suitably responded on behalf of Mrs. Grant and himself and expressed his regret that he was now leaving Stratford. At the conclusion of the ceremony, dancing was indulged in, the music being provided by Mr. and Mrs. 0. Penn and Miss Hopkins. THE POST OFFICE SITE. The following telegram has been received by the Mayor (Mr. J. W. Mcmillan) from the Hon. J. G. Coates (Minister of Public Works):—"Final negotiation and definite arrangements have been made with the Railway Department for possession of the site at Stratford for the new post office building, and instructions have been issued to the Public Works Department to complete the plans. I hope this will be entirely satisfactory to all concerned." A large assortment of the latest and best novels have just arrived at H. J. Hopkins', bookseller and stationer, Stratford.
