CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW.
SPLENDID DISPLAY OF BLOOMS. The revival of the chrysanthemum show in Xew Plymouth by the Horticultural Society met with a. splendid response on the part of the growers oF this queen flower of the autumn season, and the display made in Wh'teley Hall yesterday was a really creditable exhibition of blooms of a very high order. Notwithstanding the fact that the season has not been very favorable, aud the stormy weather at the beginning of the week made it ditlieult to preserve blooms in the pink of show condition, exhibitors have every reason to be proud of the show they made, and the society is to be congratulated on the result of this season's exhibition. In addition to the competitive classes, displays for exhibition only were made by Messrs R. Leathert (Auckland), ,T.Scanlon and G. M. Morecraft, and Messrs. Duncan and Davies (Westown) also had an exhibit of autumn blooms ana pot I plants- The judges were: Cut blooms, I Mr. F. J, Morshead; decorative classes, Mcsdames W. Ambitry and W. Birdling (Waitara), and they expressed themselves as well pleased with the standard of the exhibits. The championship for the best bloom in the show was awarded to Mr. R. Leathert, who staged a very tine specimen of the white Louisa Pocket. The same bloom was awarded the championship for the best white bloom, while Mr. ,T. Scanlon secured similar honors in the yellow and any other color classes. TheTe were very good attendances both afternoon and evening, and the committee decided to keep the show open this afternoon from 2 o'clock till five. Afternoon tea was dispensed yesterday by the lady members of the committee of the Society. Following is the prize list;— Twelve Japanese distinct varieties R. Leathert 1, J. Scanlon 2, L. I. Scanlon 1, L. J. Rea 2One vase of three Japanese blooms, yellow, one variety only.—J. Scanlon 1, R. Leathert 2. ! One vase of Japanese blooms, any color except white or yellow, one variety only.—J. Scanlon 1, L. I. Rea 2. Six bunches of disbudded Japanese or incurved chrysanthemums as grown for decorative purposes— L. I. Rea 1. NOVICE SECTION. Six Japanese distinct varieties.—L. B.
