TARANAKI WAR RELIEF ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the ere entire of the Taranakl Provincial War Relief Association was held at. Stratford yesterday. Present: Messrs. W. p. Kirkwood (chairman). E. H. Young (Stratford), F. Mills (Hawera). E. A. Washer (Farmers' Union). W. E. Perclval (Inglewood), C. E. Bellrincer (New Plymouth), and J. P. Stevenson (Manaia). An application from a discharged soldier with long service, for a. grant of £25 for the purpose of acQUiring furniture was declined, the members expressing the opinion that the applicant did not come within the scope of the Association. In regard to two applications where. reexaminations w27*, made at the request of applicants, the chairman reported that the doctors had stated tho disability at 50 per cent., whereas the same doctors had previously stated the men's disability at a lower grade.—Grants were made In both cases A member mentioned that one apnlicant whose disability had been stated as 50 per cent, had been playing football on sereral occasions, and ho thought that If tho man was fit to play footbr.ll. it seemed strance that he should be suffering from a 50 per cent disability.—The chairman mentioned that the executive was guided by tlio doctors' reports, and It would not be advisable to act against the doctors' recommendation-'?. Correspondence was received from the New Plymouth Committee in respect, of an application from a soldier in the New Plymouth Hospital with a 100 per c&nt. disability. The Committee recommended that a nart advance should be made to pay outstanding accounts—The recommendation of the New Plymouth committed was approved.
