TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") The Hawkc's Buy Jockey Club's autumn meeting opens at Hastings to-clav and will be concluded to-morrow. The fixture Is likely to attract a big gathering of sports, particularly as the Clabby-Uren fight Is fixed for tills evening also. There are all sorts of rumors about railway strikes, etc., but judging by the lengthy acceptance list for the first day's races, a big number of horse owners are prepared to take the risk. The hurdlers engaged are a fair lot, and possibly Explorer, Zeus, and Chillies will give a good account of themselves at the meeting. Sasanof is quoted very short for the Hawke's Bay Cup, hut he 11.13 a lot of weight and Nobleman and Client may prove better paying propositions in the long distance races nt Hastings. Humbug performed disappointingly at Awapuni, but is expected to run well in the w.i.a. class at Hastings. In the tminor two-year-old handicaps La raloma and Chrysostuin may be most reliable. Hack events will all attract good fields. Cashmere, Icehuff, Ta.una.ha, PaoiJnui. Sea and Hookah are as well handicapped .is any hacks that have shown recent winning form. 0 The open sprinters are a good crowd, and Tigntiya, Acre, and Hetaua will carry big money on the two days. Owing to the death at I'almeiston of Mr. t. tastons 12-year-old son, the horses Araythan: and Mustard Pot will not lie started at Hastings. Both horses have been shipped south but. may sport silk at the Canterbury .I.e. Royal meeting.
