FURIOUS DRIVING.
AUCKLAND MOTORIST FINED AT NUW PLYMOUTH. It may seem somewhat strange that for driving of a motor car at an excessive speed at Awakino, a resident of Auckland should he called upon to appear in the Magistrate's Court at New Plymouth to answer for his indiscretion. This, 'however, was the case with a man named William Stanley Miller, of Auckland, who was charged yesterday on the information of the police, with driving a motor car at an excessive speed to the danger ot the public on the main road at Awakino.
From the story given by the police It appeared that the defendant had been engaged in <i speed test between Auckland and Wellington, and that he actually accomplished the journey at an average speed of 33 1 /; miles per hour. It was alleged that defendant had passed through \lnkau and Awnkino at a speed of from 45 to 50 miles per hour. He encountered a mob of sheep and some nf these were, injured, and later a mob of cuttle was encountered, and further damage resulted. Defendant, in a letter. to the. police, admitted the offence, but stated lie was carrying out a reliability trial. A fine of CIA (maximum) was inflicted, with costs 15s.
