Mr. (t. Hogben, ex-Director of Education, died yesterday, aged 00. He had been ill for some time. ,

Wellington reports the death of Mr. Leonard Stowe, late Clerk of Parliaments, who retired last year after 54 years of Parliamentary service. The Mayor of New Plymouth (Mr. Jas. Clarke) is at present indisposed through, a mild attack of influenza. Mrs. Clarke is also slightly indisposed. Mr. C. H. Cormack, for' many years manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Carterton, is to retire in June. He has 40 years' service with the institution.

The death is reported in Wellington of Dr. Kingston Fyfl'e, following an operation for gall stones. He was wounded twice in the war. He took a great interest in music and was for 20 years organist at St. Peter's Church. Sir Thomas Mackenzie, High Commissioner, will probably leave London for New Zealand about August. After taking a rest he will probably settle in Auckland, where two of his sons have already taken lip their residenceMr; G. H. Dolby, who has been a member of the Central School Committee for nine years, was, at the annual meeting of householders last night, accorded a vote of appreciation for his services. Dr. Dolbj v did not accept further nomination.

A Press message received from Auckland states that "Mrs. Annie E. Ilehlt, agad (i'2, collapsed in the Devoiiport Methodist Church on Sunday. She was carried on to the lawn and died in her husband's arms.". The late Mrs. Helrtt was well known in New Plymouth, where she had many friends who will sincerely regret to hear of her death. Jler husband carried on a furnishing business here for many years, selling out to the Red Post Furnishing Company nine or ten years ago, and the family then went to reside in Auckland, Mr. F. \V. Sandford, who has occupied the position of woodwork instructor in connection wuli the New Plymouth Technical College for some years, and in which capacity lie has carried on classes at Stratford, has been the recipient of a small token of esteem from the boys and teachers the Stratford School, on the occasion of terminating his association with the work of the school. In an accompanying letter from Mr. F. Tyrcr, a cheque was included which the donors hoped would be exponded 011 some small token for Mrs. Sandford. The letter expressed regret rit the Jo?s of Mr. Sandford's services and appreciation of the work he had done. Mr. Tvrer also expressed his personal sense ft the loss of Mr. Sandford's services.
