Ihe Government has introducea an Indemnity Bill restricting legal proceedings on account of the Government's acts wider war proclamations, etc. It is estimated that if the Government is compelled to pay the artificial market price for goods and services during the war period, instead of on the basis of cost plus a reasonable profit on which payment was made as a rule Ihe additional cost will amount to about £700,000,000. The Government has already settled shipping claims based on the Blue Book rates amounting to £331,000,000. A number of actions have Sbeen instituted, contesting the legality of the Blue Book rates. If the claims are upheld the Government will be liable for -an extra £300,000,000 to £4OOOOO-
The present Bill aims at establishing the validity of the Blue Book rates and similar payments for munition contracts requisitioned buildings, etc. ' The Bill extends over the whole-Em-pire, except the self-Governing Dominions, which pass their own measures Aus.-N.Z- Cable Assn,
