GIRLS' HOSTEL MART.
NEARLY TWO HUNDRED POUNDS RAISED. The Mart Day, organised by Mrs. Hugh Baily onibehalf of the Girls' Hostel Fund, which-'took place on Saturday, proved a most successful effort. When operations commenced ,at about 9.30 in the morning they were kept going merrily thrpughout the day, until almost everything contributed was sold out by the late part of the afternoon. Stalls were erected in the street, and the meat and goods stall was situated in the shop in Currie Street, kindly lent for the day by Mr. C. D. Lightban'd. Outside this there was a weli stocked fruit and vegetable stall. A quaint young lady, styled "Miss Greenstockings," sold apples in the street, while some of the hospital nurses sold Anzac badges and rosemary sprigs, and in this wav raised in the vicinity of £6O. The names of the stall-holders were a3 follow: Meat and Pie Stall.—Mrs. S. G. Smith, Miss Wood, Mr. Pepperell and Mr. H. Baily. Cake RtUl.—Mesdam'es Robertson, Messenger, Rockel and MaeDiarmid. Miscellaneous Stall.—Mrs. L. Webster. Vegetable Stall—Mrs Eberlet. Sweet Stall.—Hisses Bradbury, Winfield, Whitton, Bullard, Baily and Lawson, Jam and Pickles.—Mesdames Boyd and Ii George, and Miss M. Wilson. Flower Stall—Mesdames Neal, Orbell, Misses Godfrey, Curtis and Simpson. The names of the nurses were:—Sisters Paget and Muir; Nurses Rolston, Dew, Moore, Salway, Wilson, Greatbach ar.d Corkill. The takings amounted to £lO3 13s 4d (from which certain small expenses hava to be deducted), made up as follows: Sweet stall, £3O Is Sd; Flowers, £l2 12s fid; Miss Greenstockings, £2 8s 7d; Badges, £SO (Is fid; Jumble Stall, £0 7s Id; Vegetables and miscellaneous, £S Ss sd; Mart-cakes and produce, £4B 3s 3d; Jams and pickles, £IS 0s 4d; Oonatiom, £8 ss.—Total, £lO3 13s 4d. Mrs. Baily wishes to thank all thos? ladies who so ably assisted to make the mart such a success; the Okato and Puniho, Bel] Block and Waitara Dairy Companies for donations of butter; the Oxford aivl Brooklands Dairy Companies for cheese; Messrs. Borthwick's and Smart Road Freezing Co. for donations of ox tails and tongues; May and Arrowsmith, P. Lealand, J. Somerton, J. Shepherd, G. H. Gallagher, and A. Wooller for iced cakes and pies; the chemists of New Plymouth for soap and perfumes; Goldwater Bros, for a box of tea; the Marbla Bar Co.- and Miss jfi-st-r Jua<'-:i for supplying morning and afternoon'tea; Mr. Lightband for use of shop for mart; Messrs. McEwen, and Duncan and Davies, Ltd., for pot plants; Mr. C. H. Weston for a lamb; Mrs. W. C. Weston for uso of car; Mr. A. M. Bradbury for watercolor drawing; Mr. T. Avery and staff, and Messrs McLcod and S'lade, for printing badges; ladies of Hillsboro, Waitara, Omatn, Smart Road, Warea and Rahotu for gifts of produce, as well as those un town who generously donated articles for sale; cash donations, White Cliffs Dairy Co £3 3s, Mr, W. H. Perry £2 2s, Mrs. Vanghan (Waitara), Mrs. S. W. Shaw, and Mr, B. Tipping each £l,
The dressed lamb weight guessing competition was divided between J. McLeod 331bs. and W. Inch 391bs, the exact weight being SOlbs. Iced cakes, won' by Mrs. E. Coad and M. Meston, can be obtained at Mr. Baily's office.
