SALUTING THE GERMAN FLAG.
ORDER FROM THE ADMIRALTY. "Now that a state of peace exists between the British Empire and Germany, the German national flag is to be saluted in accordance with the general rules in the Kingi's Regulations and Admiralty instructions.'' In this way the Admiralty recently announced to the navy tluu the war is really over. From August -I, 1014 to November M, 1018, it was the invariable custom to salute the German flag with shotted guns—that as to say, on the extremely rare occasions when the black-white-red ensign was sighted at sea. When H.M.S. Colossus entered the Wilhelmshaven roadstead in December, 1018, with the Allied Armistice Commission on board, all the German merchant ships lying at anchor dipped their colors to ber, an unexpected courtesy which was, of course, returned by the Colossus. In this way the exchange of nautical amenities was resumed after a l break of four years.
