Sir James Allen was farewelled at Milton ami Kaitaingata yesterday. Last liiglit hi; was entertained by Dunedin citizens. A Renter message from Rome states that the Pope has appointed Consignor .Michael Liston, coadjutor-Bishop of Auckland, and the Very Kev. Joseph White, Bishop of Dunedin. Constable T- C. Liston, of Kaponga, has been appointed one of the special force of police to accompany the Prince of Wales on his tour of the Dominion. Constable Liston left for Auckland on Wednesday, A London message states that Lord Jellit'oe will sail for Now Zealand early in August, via Panama. Mr. W. J. Freeth, Pukcaruhe, leaves this morning for Wellington. Lord .Tellicoc, who is aged CI, holds the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor, the Russian Order of St. George (third class), the Order of the First Class of the Rising Sun with Paulounia, and the Grand Cordon of the Order of Leopold, also the French and Belgian Croix do Guerre and the Grand Cross of the Military Order of Savoy. Lady. Jellicoe, ivliom Viscount Jellicoe married in 1902, nas Miss Florence Gwendolene Cayzer, daughter of Sir Charles William Cayzer, the well-known ship-owner of Liverpool. Viscount Jellicoe has one son and four daughters. The members of Mr. Newton King's fnglewood stair foregathered on Wednesday evening io congratulate Mr. Eric Shaw on his promotion from the post of accountant of the fnglewood branch, and to bidjiim flod-speed in his removal to head office, New Plymouth, to which he was transferred on the Jst inst., exactly four years since he, with Mr. 11. L. Outfield and Mr. E. Henderson, opened the fnglewood branch for Mr. King. Mr. Cutiield, in making the presentation to Mr. Shaw of the paper presentment of their esteem, said they hoped it would be accepted in the spirit in which it was given. He referred to the pleasure it had always been to work with Mr. Shaw, and expressed the best wishes to all the. staff for the health and welfare of Mr. and Mrs. Shaw, in which hope he was certain thev all heartily concurred. Mr. Shaw suitably' responded. The death occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. C. Wells, Warea, on Thursday, of Mrs. Isabella Forcer! aged 04 years. The late Mrs. Force'y, who was better known to old identities us Mrs. Samuel Oliver, was born at Andover, Hampshire, and came to New Zealand with her parents, Robert and Emma Baker, by the ship Blenheim (commander John Grey) which arrived at New Plymouth on November 7, IS-12. Mrs. Forcer was the last survivor of the adult passengers by the Blenheim. The late Mrs. Foreey resided in New Plymonth for TO years, and for the past two years with her daughter at Warea. Professor E. W. Brown, F.R.S., disector of the. Yale observatory, has been awarded the Bruce medal, the highest honor which can be bestowed on an astronomer. This medal, which is presented once in two years, is held now by only five astronomers, having been presented fifteen times since its foundation by Miss Catherine Bruce .10 years ago. Dr. Brown will he remembered as one of the scientists who visited New Zealand in IDI4 upon the invitation of the Government, and is the only brother of Mrs. J. 0. Yorke, of New Plymouth.
