SHORTAGE OF CEMENT.
PROGRESS HELD UP IN TARANAKI. The shortage of cement was brought before the Minister for Lands at Inglewood yesterday by "Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P. Mr. Smith pointed out that he hart been assured by the Board of Trade that a steamer would be sent to New Plymouth with 20ft tons of cement, though 2000 tons were on order for New Plymouth. They had now been advised that tho arrangements made for tho Rimu to come to New Plymouth hrfd been cancelled for at least a fortnight, and now works, including workers' homes, hydro-electric ' works, schools, freezing works and- others, were held up. lie suggested that the Board of Trade might possibly arrange for a larger steamer to bring a good swag of cement to New Plymouth. The Minister said that he was satisfied the case was urgent, and he would be pleased to write to the Minister in charge and place the case before him. Mr. Smith stressed the point that tho whole work of erecting schools at Strat: ford, Hawera, etc, were held up through the cement shortage.
