STRATFORD.

The annual meeting of the Stratford Pltmket Society was held vesterdav. Uio Mayor (Mr. J." W. McMillan) presiding over a good attendance-. The animal report showed that the society had had a most successful year, the balance in hand amounting to £204 12s 4d. The Society raised £123 16s Id during the year, £7O 18a' Id being the result of ''Plunket Day," and the balance of £52 18s by public subscription. The assets of the Society were valued at £43, made up of furniture. The Society was without a resident nurse between September and January, owing to the resignation of Nurse Wake on account of illhealth and the Central Council being unable to replace her until the middle of January, when Nurse McLean took the posifion temporarily. For the eight working months there were 40 babies on the books, 632 adults' visits to office, 435 babies brought to office, 17'8 visits to homes, 26 letters written, and 22 letters received; and for Inglewood 143 adults' visits to office, 126 babies brought to the office, and 125 visits paid to homes. "Nurse McLean," states the report, "is anxious for it to become more widely known that the Plunket system strongly adyises babies being breast fed, and that, failing breast milk, the humanised milk is the best substitute and the best supplement to breast milk." The Society had had to remove from Mr. McAllister's building to rooms in Juliet Street, next to Mr. J. Boon's factory. The thanks of the Society were due to tJie New Plymouth branch for having allowed Nurse Williams to visit their rooms once a week in October and November, during the absence of Nurse Wake- Thanks were also due to all who had contributed donations in money and kind during the year. Officers were elected as follows:—President, Mrs. Cuthbert; vice-presidents, Mesdamcs I. I W. McMillan, J. W. Boon, P.. Masters, fl. E. Abraham, J. B. Hine and Dr Doris Gordon; secretary, Mrs. E. F. Holland. An advisory committee was elected as follows:—Messrs. j. W. McMillan, J. W. Boon, H. E. Abraham, R. Masters, S. Spence, Dr. Steven, Rev. Father Maples, and Revs. Howard, Ncale and McKenzic. PRINCE OF WALES' VISIT. The following arrangements have been made for the children's programme in connection with the visit of the Prince of Wales to Stratford on April 30. All visiting school children are asked to bring light lunches (and cups/ to augment the food supplies. The capitation per head of Standards 3—7 is being paid to the Ce7;tral Reception Committee, who have added to that amount £3O. The supply of lump, sandwiches, drinks, fruit, etc, besides tea, cocoa, sugar, hot water and in'dk. is behijr supplied by the Central Committee. 10 a.m.—All children assemble at the Stratford D.IF.S. Meeting of teachers and marshals. 11 30 a.m.—Processional March to Broadway (Messrs. Tyrer mid Curtcis marshals). 12 a.m.—Assemble in front of stand between barricade. 12.40 p.m.—Line route to the station while Prince Visits the mothers of the fallen soldiers in the Council Chambers. 12.50 p.m.—Children of Infant classes and lower Standards conveyed to Show Grounds by motor. U"> p.m.—Luncheon ' to all at Show Grounds. Children arranged in a huge circle in charge of teachers. Committees asked to help in dispersing food, 2 p.m.—Monster Sports' Meeting. Three sports simultaneously in three groups: Primers and St 1-2. St. 3-li, High School: £SO set aside for . prizes. Good varied programme. After sports Ihe children will be conveyed to the station for trains. In case of a wet day an alt.»' : , ; Uive programme will be arranged. • The Stratford School Committee,will take entire charge of the catering, with the co-operation of the School Committees. . No trouble is being spared to make this a real children's day—one to be remembered by them for all time. Committees are asked to leave provisions at the Town Hall by 10 a.m. GENERAL. The recent floods in the Patca river did a certain amount of damage to the weir at the borough hydro station, and about two days' work will be required to repair the damage. The Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of .Public Works, has advised the Mayor of Stratford that the plans for the Victoria bridge over the Patea river are' aljnost completed. In connection with the bridge at the Kota Settlement, the Minister advises that the plans are in hand and material partially arranged for. He anticipates that the construction will be commenced shortly. T. LAMASON'S WEEKLY REPORT. | A yery good sale was held at my rooms last Saturday. A good entry of poultry, furniture and sundries came to hand. All lines met with keen competition. The demand is very good for all lines, especially in the poultry—could do with 200 "birds every Saturday. I quote as follows: Hens, 2s to 4s each; ducks, 3s each; cockrells, 2s to 2s Oil; potatoes, 10s to 13s bag; apples 2s to 4s half case, bushels 7s to 8s 6d; pears, 2s €d to 4s 6d; other lines at usual auction rates. T. Lamason's usual weekly sale is advertised for to-morrow (Saturday). Every family should have its'picture history. How about yours? Photographs of the children never grow up.
